Taylor Sheridan, the writer and producer who created “Yellowstone,” has started production on yet another series at the Paramount+ streaming service. “Lioness” tells the story of a young Marine who’s recruited to make friends with the daughter of a terrorist in a scheme to bring the organization down from within.

Laysla De Oliveira (Netflix’s “Locke & Key”) stars as Cruz Manuelos, the Marine who loses her children, her lover and her freedom when she is framed for fraud committed by her late husband. She’s recruited into the CIA’s Lioness program by station chief Joe (Zoe Saldaña, “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Avatar: The Way of Water”), who trains, manages and leads a team of female undercover operatives.
Sheridan is on a hot streak, and actors are lining up to work with him. In addition to “Yellowstone,” he’s got “Mayor of Kingstown” (Jeremy Renner), “Tulsa King” (Sylvester Stallone), “1923” (Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren) and “1883” (Sam Elliott) streaming on Paramount+. In addition to “Lioness,” he’s got the oil rig drama “Land Man” (Billy Bob Thornton) and western “Bass Reeves” (David Oyelowo, Dennis Quaid) set to run on the streaming service.
“Lioness” may have the most impressive cast of all. Oscar winner Nicole Kidman (“The Northman”) plays CIA senior supervisor Kaitlyn Meade, Emmy nominee Michael Kelly (“Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan”) plays CIA Deputy Director Byron Westfield, Oscar winner Morgan Freeman (“The Shawshank Redemption”) plays U.S. Secretary of State Edwin Mullins and Sam Asghari (Britney Spears’ husband) plays Kamal.
There’s no word as to when the series will air on Paramount+, but the recent flurry of casting announcements suggest the show is in the middle of production. We’ll have more details as they become available.
