Alyssa Milano, an actress and political activist, bragged about trading in her Tesla for a Volkswagen electric vehicle but was slammed online very quickly. She made the switch to defy “hate and white supremacy” and businesses buying ads on Twitter, as the actress claims.
Here is what the famous ‘Charmed’ star tweeted: “I gave back my Tesla. I bought the VW ev. I love it. I’m not sure how advertisers can buy space on Twitter. Publicly traded company’s products being pushed in alignment with hate and white supremacy doesn’t seem to be a winning business model.”
In case you missed it, Elon Musk is the new owner of Twitter, while he is also the chief executive officer of Tesla, said Newsweek. But it was quickly pointed out to Milano by Twitter users that the vehicle she got back in the trade, Volkswagen, was engineered and built in Germany in the 1930s when Adolf Hitler was the country’s chancellor beginning in 1933.
Among the tweets pointed to Milano, country singer John Rich of the duo Big and Rich wrote: “@Alyssa_Milano hates @elonmusk so much she got rid of her Tesla for a VW, and the irony is epic.” Pointing out Volkswagen’s history with Hitler and Nazi Germany, comedians and conservatives Hodgetwins responded to Milano in a tweet to their 1.3 million followers: “Volkswagen was literally founded by the Nazi’s and Hitler.”
Milano was even called a “special kind of stupid” by a professed Trump supporter, Collin Rugg, who wrote: “Imagine selling your Tesla because the owner supports free speech then going and buying a car founded by Nazis.” “@Alyssa_Milano, you are a special kind of stupid,” Rugg added.
Another user tweeted: “Alyssa Milano didn’t like the Twitter accounts Elon Musk is allowing on his platform, so she dumped her Tesla and replaced it with a vehicle made by a company founded by literal Nazis because she’s fighting white supremacy. I’ve got nothing. “@Alyssa_Milano aligns with Nazis more than freedom. Gave her Tesla back for a VW,” tweeted another.
In October, after Musk purchased Twitter for approximately $44 billion, he vowed to make it a free speech platform for everyone. And recently, in a poll that Musk posted on his Twitter account, he asked if former President Donald Trump should be reinstated after his ban in January 2021. In a total of 15,085,458 votes, 51.8% of users voted ‘Yes,’ while 48.2% voted ‘No.’
It is obvious that the percentage margin was thin, but the fact is that more than half the voters thought Trump should get his Twitter account back. About six minutes after the poll ended, Musk said: “The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei.”
Mexico President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, a leftist who was among more than 15 million accounts that voted in the poll, has tweeted the last line, which translates to: “voice of the people, voice of God.” In a retweet, López Obrador: “I already voted for Trump to be able to use Twitter. The Statue of Liberty must not remain an empty symbol.”
