Manchester United legend and former captain Nemanja Vidic has praised manager Erik ten Hag for key changes he has made since joining the club in the summer.
Vidic was a prominent player towards the end of Sir Alex Ferguson’s era at Old Trafford making 300 appearances for the Red Devils and lifting five Premier League titles.
He left the club in 2014 after a dismal first season post Fergie’s retirement which resulted in United finishing seventh and missing out on European qualification for the first time in over 20 years.
The club have continued to have their ups and downs since, but the arrival of manager Ten Hag last summer has been the most promising moment yet.
Vidic has been full of praise for the Dutchman and has highlighted the players’ ability to play as a team under their new boss.
Speaking to The Times, he said: “I like the coach now. He gives stability. He understood there’s going to be ups and downs and whether he loses or wins he is stable, which gives everyone confidence.
“What he did with this group of players is they finally play as a team which I have to say for long time I didn’t have that feeling.
“But now with this coach I feel they understand that a centre back is not just the only one defending. It’s the whole team defending. The same going forward. I’m positive with what he brings to the club.”
Ten Hag’s transformation
The Red Devils ended last season trophyless for the fifth consecutive campaign and were in great turmoil after the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjær and the failure of interim manager Ralf Rangnick.
The club had to get their next appointment right and the arrival of Ten Hag from Ajax came with great optimism given the young managers’ track record with the Dutch giants.
He took them to the Champions League semi-final back in 2019 and developed young stars such as Frenkie de Jong and Hakim Ziyech.
Since moving to Manchester he has revolutionised United taking the club to their first domestic cup final since 2018 and making them realistic contenders in the Premier League.
Legend Vidic believes he is the right man to take the club back to the top and most fans share the same opinion.
