The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power got blasted by most of the audience on the web.
But, just like professional critics, actors who played in Peter Jackson’s Middle-earth movies tend to view the series positively, even if that opinion is not unanimous.
Take, for example, Orlando Bloom who played Elven archer Legolas in both of Jackson’s movie trilogies, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Speaking to RadioTimes.com, Orlando Bloom confessed to loving The Rings of Power.
“I had missed Tolkien,” he said in his interview. “I had missed Tolkien’s mind and I’d missed his world and I’d missed his vision – and I think they just stepped back into Tolkien’s world. I thought it was really courageous.”
Bloom’s most recent notable role is that of Rycroft Philostrate, the lead character of Carnival Row, a dark fantasy crime drama series, almost as different from Tolkien’s works as it is possible to be different for a fantasy story, so that might be where his sentiment is coming from.
Orlando Bloom then explained:
“It’s not an easy thing to take on another version of something that had such a remarkable run of its own, but I thought it was really admirable; the casting, the story and the way they approached the world… I’m looking forward to more of it.”
He also shared a photo of himself together with The Rings of Power actor Ismael Cruz Córdova on Instagram the last year.
The caption “mellon”, means “friend” in the fictional Elven language, if you wonder (or if you forgot the “password” used by Gandalf in The Fellowship of the Ring). And Ismael, naturally plays another Elven archer similar to Legolas in some aspects (such as being more notable for his character’s skills than for his personality or emotional range, as their detractors might say).
In any case, regardless of what one might think about its merits, reception or degree of success, The Rings of Power has already been renewed for Season 2.
It is currently being filmed, and the plans extend to making five seasons. Given that we’re unlikely to see the next season before 2024, confirming the production cycle of two years per season, the series might stay with us for nearly a decade.
