Striker Darwin Nunez had to leave the field early with a shoulder injury in the match against Newcastle, right before the big battle with Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Liverpool paid a heavy price after winning against Newcastle
Darwin Nunez will face a race for time to make it in time for Liverpool against Real Madrid in the Champions League in the middle of next week. The Uruguayan striker suffered a shoulder problem when he collided with Kieran Trippier in the second half of the match against Newcastle and had to leave the field.
Sharing after the game, Jurgen Klopp said: “The most negative thing is that Nunez had to leave the field because of injury. We’ll have to see how serious it is – hopefully not a big deal. We have to overcome obstacles like this.”
In the last match, Darwin Nunez scored the opening goal for Liverpool. It was the player’s first Premier League goal since November 12, when he scored twice against Southampton.
Losing Darwin Nunez now is a big loss for Liverpool. Klopp’s army certainly does not want to be eliminated from the Champions League because it is also a way for them to win tickets to the European Cup next season.
After the victory over Newcastle, Liverpool temporarily rose to 8th place in the rankings. Klopp’s teachers and students are still 6 points behind Newcastle’s 4th place but played 1 game less. Compared to the 5th ranked team, Tottenham, Liverpool are only 4 points behind and played 1 game less. If the current revival momentum is maintained, Liverpool can still compete for a place in the top 4 this season.
