Neymar Jr. and Kylian Mbappe’s connection has been a lethal one during their time with Paris Saint-Germain. The two linked up again for the capital club’s opening goal in the 4-3 win over Lille OSC on Sunday at the Parc des Princes.
The connection on the first goal was Neymar’s 17th assist to Mbappe in Ligue 1, the joint-highest tally of assists from one player to another since Opta collected the data (2006/07), along with Angel Di Maria to Edinson Cavani.
When PSG brought the two players in 2017, they were expected to help the French giants win the UEFA Champions League; however, they have yet to reach that mountaintop. They were close in 2020, reaching the final, but fell to Bayern Munich.
Oddly enough, it’s also Bayern Munich standing in their way again, as the Bundesliga has a 1-0 lead. Additionally, Neymar could be out for the second leg on March 8 at the Allianz Arena, so Mbappe might have to carry the attack alongside Lionel Messi.
