Anthony Mackie became Captain America after the events of Avengers: Endgame. Falcon and the Winter saw the journey of Sam Wilson accepting his fate as the star-spangled man. It brought into question what the future of the character might look like. While Captain America: New World Order is already in the works, the question of whether or not Sam Wilson would follow Steve Rogers’ footsteps was raised.Anthony Mackie as Captain America
Mackie even addressed the stance that his character would have as a leader in a team that would be semi-broken. The comparison between the two heroes is often made because Wilson is a great legacy. He had a journey of understanding and believing in himself similar to how fans needed to see Captain America outside of Chris Evans.

Anthony Mackie Thinks His Captain America Is Better Than Chris Evans’
Anthony Mackie‘s Captain America is very different from Chris Evans’. Both of them are separate physically and emotionally. Even though Sam Wilson and Steven Rogers share their love for their country, the two are different in terms of their methods and their motivations. Mackie focused on how the new Captain America has no super-serum.
Anthony Mackie in Falcon and the Winter Soldier
“Remember, he’s a counselor and he’s a regular guy who just happened to become an Avenger. There’s no superpowers, there’s no super-suit, there’s no super-serum. He’s just a guy. I love the idea of him moving through life as Captain America, as someone who brings peace and change instead of destruction and physical force.”
Unlike Evans, his version of the hero has no superpowers and fights with a lot of people much stronger than him. His sheer will and determination are enough for him to be able to face the most formidable of foes. While Steve Rogers still had his powers and super strength to back him up, Wilson does not have any of that. This makes his character much stronger than Evans’ emotionally if not physically.

Spider-Man and Falcon in Captain America: Civil War
“I’ve been in a few fights. And heart and charisma never helped me in a fight. That usually just got me beat up. So that might cause an issue when you go fight somebody like Thanos.”
He admitted to the fact that sometimes the enemies can be strong enough for there to not be a possibility for someone without superpowers to go up against them as a leader. This only became more concrete when reports of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man leading the heroes in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty started appearing. Furthermore, seeing that each character has had their fair share of character development, it could be interesting to see a shift in the leadership from Sam Wilson to Peter Parker.
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will be available to watch on 2nd May 2025.
