Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has shared what he told the Liverpool squad immediately after the 5-2 defeat to Real Madrid last night.
Speaking in his post-match interview with beIN Sports, the German was asked whether he’s worried the players have had their confidence knocked by their woeful second-half performance.
“That’s not allowed, that’s not allowed,” Klopp said.
“I understand that, but I told the boys already, it was a massive knock. We wanted to win the game and we lost it 5-2. How can you think no problem? Nobody thinks that. But a defeat is only a defeat if you don’t learn from it properly.
“And if we don’t learn tonight that the first half was outstanding, apart from two moments, then we are dumb to be honest. That’s what we have to keep on doing.
“We will learn from it and go again.”

At this point in time, it’s unlikely we will see a resurgence during the away leg at the Bernabeu.
Liverpool crumbled defensively tonight, and it is clear that a number of players are simply not up to the task anymore.
This requires severe action in the summer, as a major rebuild is needed.
No disrespect to James Milner, but a 37-year-old should not be coming off the bench when you’re losing during the round of 16 of the Champions League.
This demonstrates just how far Liverpool’s squad have fallen, and how they’ve been starved of a big club transfer budget under FSG’s ownership.
Although transfer rumours have mainly been focused on the midfield, it will be imperative for the Reds to bring in another centre-back this summer.
Without this, these sorts of performances will continue to occur, and promising attacking displays will go to waste.
