Cristiano Ronaldo might be in for a stunning reunion with his former teammate Marcelo as the Brazilian is without a club after Greek side Olympiakos terminated his contract due to fitness issues as Marcelo is currently nursing an injury. Marcelo had moved to Greece after parting ways with Real Madrid in 2022 after 15 years.
Ronaldo and Marcelo were part of a formidable Real Madrid team that achieved an unprecedented three-peat in the UEFA Champions League winning it in 2017, 2017, and 2018. The duo was pivotal to the success of Real Madrid in the last decade as they formed a wonderful partnership on the left flank of Real Madrid’s attack.
Marcelo moved to Real Madrid in 2007 from Brazilian side Fluminese while Cristiano joined the Spanish club in 2009 after a couple of brilliant seasons with English club Manchester United. The duo played together for Real Madrid for almost a decade before Ronaldo moved to Juventus in 2018. Marcelo was also primed to join Ronaldo at Juventus according to numerous reports but the move didn’t finalize but it looks like they might be in for a reunion after all.
Fans have been excited ever since the news of Marcelo’s potential reunion with Cristiano broke on the internet as they want to see the duo play together at the end of their careers. Marcelo and Ronaldo shared a brilliant relationship on and off the field as they were seen partying and hanging out together on multiple occasions during their time in the Spanish capital.
Fans excited as Marcelo might join Al-Nassr
We went to Twitter to take a look at how fans reacted to the news of the reunion:
We noticed a user who seemed to be a fan of the duo and was really excited about the reunion of the formidable duo. The fan urged the Al-Nassr board to please make this transfer happen and let the world witness the reunion of two great players at last.
Another fan had a funny take on the news of the reunion and suggested that Al-Nassr should look into signing the other players of the Real Madrid squad as well after signing Marcelo. They also funnily suggested that they should change their jersey to Real Madrid’s kit of 2017-18 and assemble the whole of the legendary squad to treat the fans.
They wrote: “Just get the rest of the squad and change the kit”
Marcelo announced his farewell from Olympiacos as he penned down an emotional farewell letter, he made 10 appearances for the club across all competitions scoring 3 goals before Olympiacos terminated his contract. It will be interesting to see whether he will be able to regain his form if Al-Nassr sign him.
Cristiano Ronaldo called Marcelo his “brother”
Cristiano has always shared a brilliant relationship with Marcelo and even called him his brother last year after the former Real Madrid fullback announced his farewell from the Spanish club. Ronaldo called Marcelo a brother that the game had given him.
He wrote: “More than a teammate, a brother that football gave me..On and off the fields, one of the biggest stars with whom I had the pleasure of sharing a locker room. Go with everything on this new adventure, Marcelo!”
Ronaldo further mentioned the Brazilian as one of the biggest stars he has shared a dressing room with and that is some statement considering the likes of world stars Ronaldo has played with throughout his glorious career. The duo might be in for another assignment together if Al-Nassr manages to land the fullback.
