Arsenal will target new contracts for Aaron Ramsdale and William Saliba as a priority once Bukayo Saka signs his new deal. The winger has a verbal agreement to stay to June 2028.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports for The Guardian that Arsenal will focus on Ramsdale and Saliba’s contracts. Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu are eager to tie down the long-term futures of the north London club’s key players with further extensions.
Arsenal have already secured Gabriel Martinelli’s place at Emirates Stadium until 2027 and Saka is now set to follow. The forward has reached a verbal agreement to sign fresh terms until 2028 and should put pen to paper imminently. His current deal is set to end next year.
ARSENAL ARE CLOSE TO FINALISING A NEW CONTRACT UNTIL 2028 FOR BUKAYO SAKA
Saka has always intended to sign a new contract to stay with Arsenal, whom he joined back in 2008. While the Daily Mail also reports that the 21-year-old will earn over £200k-a-week on his new deal. He has 10 goals and eight assists in 31 games this term in all competitions.
Once Saka’s new contract is formally ratified, Arteta and Edu will then prioritise fresh deals for Ramsdale and Saliba at Arsenal. The Gunners further hope that talks to keep Ramsdale past an £83k-a-week deal to 2025 with an option to 2026 will be relatively straightforward.
ARON RAMSDALE AND WILLIAM SALIBA ARE NEXT IN LINE FOR NEW DEALS AT THE EMIRATES
Arsenal are keen to reward Ramsdale with fresh terms having played a key role in their run to the top of the Premier League table this season. The 24-year-old has started in all 23 of their fixtures so far. He has also kept nine clean sheets, the third most across the division.
Only Newcastle United’s Nick Pope (12 in 23) and Manchester United’s David de Gea (10 in 24) have more. While only Pope (15) has conceded fewer goals than Ramsdale (23), whom Jack Wilshere also lauds for making ‘unbelievable’ saves. De Gea has let in 28 goals so far.
Saliba is a more urgent case for Arsenal with his £40k-a-week contract ending in 2024. The Emirates Stadium outfit also have an option to extend the 21-year-old’s terms to 2025. He has also started in each of their 23 Premier League line-ups under Arteta so far this season.
