Manchester United’s players have begun the celebrations after winning the Carabao Cup.
The Red Devils’ stars posed together in the dressing room at Wembley after beating Newcastle 2-0.
With beers, champagne, and winners’ medals around their necks, this was exactly how Erik ten Hag’s squad would have dreamed it up.
Casemiro and Marcus Rashford scored United’s goals in the 2-0 win.
Celebration time
The matchday squad were joined by stars who did not mak
e the bench at Wembley, including Facundo Pellistri, Kobbie Mainoo and Zidane Iqbal. Anthony Martial was also there.
Man of the match Casemiro could barely be seen at the back of the shot above, with Raphael Varane. Winning trophies is routine to them.
United’s players have tonight to celebrate, before returning training tomorrow at Carrington.
There is a FA Cup fifth round tie this week and then a Premier League trip to Anfield. This is no time to get distracted.
If United’s stars really want to celebrate big, this is even more incentive to win more silverware at the end of the season, with potential FA Cup and Europa League finals to reach.
The Carabao Cup is just a taster. Hopefully there is plenty more silverware to come under Erik ten Hag.
Bruno Fernandes makes statement after Manchester United win the Carabao Cup
Bruno Fernandes has made a statement after Manchester United won the Carabao Cup.
This is Fernandes’ first trophy as a Manchester United player, since joining the club in 2020. He previously came closest in the Europa League final in 2021.
The Portugal star spoke out after the game to express his happiness, while saying he wants more.
Fernandes lifted the trophy jointly with Harry Maguire, who was a second half substitute against Newcastle.
Fernandes statement
Bruno Fernandes spoke to Sky Sports after the win, to say Manchester United’s squad want to go on and win even more.
He said: “We need more and we want more. Our standards we need more.
“I’m satisfied now as finally I have my trophy but I want more.”
Fernandes came close to scoring at Wembley late in the game, but United effectively won the match in the first half.
Casemiro scored the opener with a header, before Marcus Rashford’s shot deflected in off Sven Botman.
This is United’s first trophy since 2017, and comes in Erik ten Hag’s first year as manager. This season has been a fresh start, one which the club desperately needed.
A year ago United were in a desperate state, looking divided and directionless. Erik ten Hag has got the whole club back on track, and this came through with a controlled performance in the final, with big players stepping up.
United are right back to it this week with an FA Cup fifth round game this week at home to West Ham, then a Premier League game away at Anfield.
There is little time to get too caught up celebrating, but the players will clearly enjoy themselves tonight.
