A young Queensland child born with one arm has a special friendship with a three-legged puppy. Ella Peggie, a one-year-old Staffy Boston Terrier Cross, has already found her true love in Snowy. Snowy would be the ideal fit, so when her mother Brooke Hodgson learned about the hound pound online, she knew right away. The mother, who is 21 years old, hopes the puppy will be by Ella’s side as she grows up and experiences both the highs and lows of life.
She will face challenges like having to walk to school or not being able to use the monkey bars when playing.
Yet young Ella Peggie, who was born without her left arm, will have the extraordinary chance to form a lasting bond with her beloved three-legged pooch.
Her mother, Brooke Hodgson, thought the Staffy Boston Terrier Cross named Snowy, who was one year old, would make the ideal playmate for her young daughter.
The mother, who was 21 years old, made the decision to write a sincere email to the Animal Welfare League of Queensland (AWLQ) asking if they may keep the abandoned puppy at the Gold Coast rehoming facility.
In her hometown of Loganholm, Queensland, Ms. Hodgson told Daily Mail Australia that “Snowy made my heart skip a beat” when she first saw her online.
Since they are the same age and would have a long friendship, I felt she would be the ideal match for Ella. As she gets older, Snowy will undoubtedly develop a stronger sense of self.
“It’s going to be great for her [Ella] when she realizes she’s different or when she’s having a bad day, she will see the similarity and know that she’s not alone,” the author predicts.
The pound puppy, who recently underwent surgery to amputate a leg, was turned over to the animal shelter last week and found a new home in just three days.
When the energetic puppy joined the family as the newest member, the mother-of-two claimed she has been moved by the pair’s endearing interaction. She also hopes that the loving dog would stick by Ella through life’s ups and downs.
Ms. Hodgson admits that it took Ella some time to get used to the energetic dog.
“Ella hasn’t been around animals before so she was a little wary when we got Snowy up, but she has warmed up to her very fast,” the source said.
They cuddle incredibly close, and Ella constantly kisses her. \s’
Every morning, Snowy looks for Ella before running to anyone else, as I’ve noticed. It’s beautiful to see this bond. It will definitely change Ella’s life, in my opinion.
“I’m just happy I could give her this dog,” you might say. I can’t even stand to see them get much closer. I couldn’t even begin to describe how happy I am right now to have Snowy, as not many people can do this for their kids.
The young mother claimed that Snowy, who joined the family only a week ago, has played a very unique role in Ella’s life, as well as the lives of her father Stewart Peggie, 22, her brother Blake, 3, and herself.
Despite having Amniotic Band syndrome, the infant Ella, according to the loving mother, is a healthy baby who has never failed to win over others.
“Ella is just like any other child; she is perfect,” Added Ms. Hodgson.
She has gotten by on her own and follows her own course of action. She frequently plays with her feet and head, therefore she is adjusting well. Instead of crawling about the house, she has learned to bum shuffle.
I was first concerned about how she would adjust to prep school since she was born on a hospital ward. She won’t be able to use scissors to cut paper or perform other tasks that call for two hands.
But when we get there, we’ll cross that bridge. Right now, she is our beautiful, content, and healthy young daughter, and I could not ask for anything better.
Update: Seven years later, Ella and her cherished puppy are still having the time of their lives and have overcome everything her family feared she would not.
