Andy Hackett, an experienced fisherman from the United Kingdom, was on a fishing trip in the Champagne region in France when he made the most stunning catch of his life.
This wasn’t Andy’s first time visiting this particular French lake, but it was his first time catching a carp that looked almost exactly like a goldfish!
Affectionately named “The Carrot” for it’s orange color, the fish is actually a mixed-breed of leather carp and koi carp, which were introduced to the Bluewater Lakes more than 2 decades ago.
The Carrot weighs a whopping 67.4 lbs, so it’s no wonder it took Andy almost half an hour to reel it in.
“With normal fish, you struggle to see them if they’re under the surface. But The Carrot is obviously bright orange, so you can’t miss it,” Andy said in an interview with the BBC.
“Just like general big fish, they’re heavy, they’re slow, they plod around,” he added.
In the video below you can see Andy releasing The Carrot back into the lake.
If you’d like a shot at catching The Carrot, get in line because there’s a five year waiting list for the fishery it calls home.
Have you ever seen a fish like this before?
