The Egghead Island arc of One Piece has already revealed secrets that fans have been waiting years to see, but the latest chapter hints that it will have an even larger impact on the series. This is only natural given that the beloved pirate manga by Eiichiro Oda is entering its Final Saga which would naturally come with major changes. But the magnitude of the change is implied to have major consequences not just for the Straw Hats, but the world at large.
Chapter 1078, translated by Stephen Paul features one of the few instances of narration in the series, with a narrator speaking of the events of One Piece’s Egghead Island from the perspective of the future. Much of what they say covers events that have already been shown, but the most tantalizing detail they mention is that the events happening in this arc, which will be known as the Egghead Incident, will reveal a truth that will shock the entire world. A revelation that large is bound to shake up the status quo of the series and truly signal that One Piece is in its final arc.
One Piece‘s Narration Hints at a Major Change to Come
This would make sense given that the World Government is trying to kill Vegapunk in order to hide what he learned in his research. Whatever secret he knows is apparently even more important than what the librarians of Ohara learned before the World Government razed their island. Given that the five elders themselves are present at One Piece’s Egghead Island as well, it must be a secret of such magnitude to threaten their power. In addition, if anything happened to them while they were outside Mariejois, it would greatly affect how the World Government is run thus changing the way One Piece’s society operates at a fundamental level.
It is unclear what exactly will happen on Egghead to cause such a massive shakeup but given Vegapunk has continued Ohara’s research on the Void Century, it may be about the foundation of the World Government and the creation of the Celestial Dragons. This would connect with York’s claim at the end of the chapter that the World Government would make her one of One Piece’s Celestial Dragon, implying that she knows why and how that class was formed. If the world at large learns this sort of secret, they may react violently, trying to overthrow their unjust oppressors despite the overwhelming odds against them.
Egghead Island’s Conclusion Will Change One Piece Forever
Whatever major event occurs at the end of Egghead Island, it will be a perfect conclusion to what has been one of One Piece‘s best arcs. If the entire final Saga is of this caliber and constantly reveals some of the series’ best-kept mysteries, it will truly be unlike anything that has come before it. Hopefully, the drastic shakeup that One Piece is promising will be a harbinger of even more ground-shaking events to come in the Final Saga so that the series will be able to end on an epic high note.
