A host of top European clubs, including Manchester United, have shown an interest in Rasmus Hojlund; the Denmark forward who has drawn comparisons to Erling Haaland.
Earlier this year, the much-talked about Hojlund, who recently scored five goals in two games for his country, made a big confession – he is a self-proclaimed Manchester United supporter.
After being asked which team he follows, the 20-year-old replied: “Now that you ask, I will not hide the fact that I am a huge Manchester United fan.
“So personally, it would be one of the biggest things for me, but of course that doesn’t mean that I would turn down other big clubs if the offers come at some point.”
Months later and United are reportedly monitoring Hojlund after a host of top performances for club and country this season. In fact, according to Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, there is ‘concrete interest’ from Erik ten Hag’s side.
Real Madrid and Arsenal are also said to be monitoring his situation, say talkSPORT.
After joining Serie A side Atalanta from Sturm Graz last summer for a reported £15 million, the striker has impressed for the Italian outfit, scoring eight goals in 23 games.
To sum up his excellent campaign thus far, Hojlund scored all three goals in Denmark’s 3-1 win against Finland on Thursday before netting a brace in their 3-2 defeat to Kazakhstan.
Ekstra Bladet also suggest Hojlund’s current value is at around £23-£31million.
Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini recently compared the player to Manchester City forward Erling Haaland, who has netted 48 goals in 43 games this season.
“The characteristics are very similar [between Hojlund and Haaland], especially in accelerations,” said Gasperini.
“He is a very fast player, he does the 100 meters in less than 11 seconds. For his height, he has a low centre of gravity and an incredible stride frequency.
“I’m convinced he will have a great career. Technically, he always shows different and better things.”
