Ariana Grande still has fond memories of their first collaboration and her late ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller.
Saturday’s Instagram post from a fan page celebrating the tenth anniversary of the former couple’s song ‘The Way’ featured the pop star’s ‘i love you’ comment.
The same message was also shared by Grande in the post on her Instagram Story.
Reminiscing about the track, which was first released on March 25, 2013, fans took to the comments section.
“the first thing i bought with my first paycheck was this single ?? i had it on repeat for weeks!” one fan wrote.
“10 years?!?! …and still such an amazing song!! ????,” added another.
“This song is a very significant part of my childhood. Happy 10 years 💗,” commented a third supporter.
Miller, 29, and Grande, 29, were together for almost two years before they split up in May 2018. The ‘Self Care’ rapper died of an accidental overdose four months later. He was 26.
On Instagram, Grande paid empathetic tribute to Miller a week after his tragic death.
“i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore,” she captioned a video on September 14, 2018, which showed the late musician telling her a story as they both laughed and smiled.
After that, Grande seemed to talk about Miller’s struggles with substance abuse.
“I really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this,” she added. “so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else.”
In her tribute, the two-time Grammy winner wrote that she was ‘so sorry’ that she couldn’t alleviate Miller’s suffering.
“i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest,” she wrote.
Mill operator and Grande likewise worked together on a few different tunes, including the rapper’s ‘My Main thing’ and a remix of Grande’s ‘Into You.’
The ‘Dangerous Woman’ singer started seeing Pete Davidson a month after Miller and Grande split up. In June 2018, the couple got engaged, but they broke up shortly after Miller’s death.
Grande married to Dalton Gomez in secrecy in May 2021.
