The ‘Fast and Furious‘ spree that began in 2001 is still going strong and ‘Fast X‘ is on the way. The franchise which revolves around movies about race, speeding, and also heists is much loved. Fast and Furious is in charge of releasing not only movies but also short films, TV Shows, etc. Talking about the movies majorly, Universal Pictures has released a total of nine movies till now. Helmed by Vin Diesel, mostly all parts have been commercially successful.
Not only the movies made a huge amount of money, but they also fetched all its cast members massive fame since 2001. The core cast includes Vin Diesel, Jason Mamoa, Paul Walker, etc. The ninth movie named ‘F9: The Fast Saga’ was released in the year 2021 and had a budget of around $200 million. However, to everyone’s surprise, the upcoming sequel ‘Fast X‘ has an expected budget of $340 million. Fans are eager to know the reason behind this massive surge. So let us also figure it out!
Why ‘Fast X’ Costs $140 Million Higher Than ‘F9’?
‘F9: The Fast Saga‘ budget was only $200 million when ‘Fast and Furious 7‘ was $250 million. This is because ‘Fast and Furious‘ is actually known for their low-budget racing movies. In fact, the first film had a budget of only $38 million, which today can encompass the salary of the cast. However, the sudden surge of $140 million for the upcoming movie i.e. ‘Fast X‘ has a reason of its own. It is believed that a number of factors are to blame for the escalating cost.
What has caused spending to explode well beyond what could be expected? The factors include higher salaries for Vin Diesel and his castmates, inflation-driven production, and requirements for pandemic testing. All this has made the budget very high than that of the franchise’s earlier entries.
Having said that, there is a distinct possibility that ‘Fast X‘ will recoup a significant portion of those costs and make a profit at the box office. This is especially true when one considers that the ‘Fast and Furious‘ franchise has amassed more than $6.6 billion to date in ticket sales since it was first launched in 2001. The film with the highest worldwide gross is ‘Furious 7,’ which took in just under $1.52 billion during its theatrical run. Crazy!

Sadly, Paul Walker, who played Brian O’Conner in the film series, was killed in a single-car accident in Santa Clarita, California, in 2013. He was 40 years old. That film was his final appearance in the film series. After Walker’s passing, his brothers, Cody Walker and Caleb Walker stepped in to finish filming the scenes that he had not yet completed. The film also marked the first appearances in the series of Jason Statham (who plays Deckard Shaw) and Nathalie Emmanuel (who plays Ramsey).

Expensive Cast: Who Are The Actors?
Due to the large ensemble cast, it was inevitable that ‘Fast X‘ would have a higher production budget. As the tenth installment in the series, the “family” of ‘Fast and Furious‘ is larger than it has ever been. Not only this the majority of the main cast, particularly stars like Vin Diesel, will be due a larger payday. It has been previously reported that this caused the budget to increase to nearly $300 million. The same is expected to continue to be the case.
It shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that ‘Fast X‘ is the most expensive movie in the franchise to date given that John Cena joined in ‘F9‘ and now Jason Momoa, Brie Larson, and Alan Ritchson are joining ‘Fast X.’ In fact, it shouldn’t come as a surprise at all. Apart from them, Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren will also be part of the upcoming movie. Sadly, our very own Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock, will also be absent from the movie similar to ‘F9‘.
