The cabin is quietly located on a small organic farm and artist’s compound, the straw bale adobe cabin building has amazing views of Mesa Verde and the Four Corners area. With ancient Anasazi ruins and a private canyon on this 135-acre property, you’ll have room to relax and explore.
This is an incredibly unique cabin space that is thoughtfully furnished with original art and handmade furniture. The Canyon Cabin includes a queen-sized bed, a table for two, a small bathroom with shower, small refrigerator, microwave, iPod docking device for your music, two-burner cooktop, coffee pot, microwave, and outdoor grill. Guests to the cabin have access to the vegetable gardens and greenhouses for cooking tasty meals. In the summer the owners grow an abundance of tomatoes, summer squash, green beans, broccoli, peppers, and some melons. In the winter, there is an upper greenhouse that grows a variety of greens– lettuce, spinach, kale, and chard.
The owners also have another vacation rental known as the Mesa Verde Farm straw bale artists cabin, an amazing fusion of art and architecture. This cabin is very comfortable and is made of straw bale and earth plaster, handmade glass, lighting, and furniture. The cabin is tranquil with the sound of flowing water from the Moonlight Acequia. The cabin is central to the incredible sights of the Utah desert and the Colorado high country, it stands alone as a place to chill out and relax during your Southwest Adventure. Guests to the cabin have access to our organic gardens, greenhouses, and Anasazi ruins. It is set in the middle of 135 acres. From the big sky paintings by a local artist friend to the one-of-a-kind ironwork wood-burning stove, the owners have been handcrafting the details of this place, its structure, and furnishings for more than a decade. The cabin was inspired by the straw bale and tiny house movements, its design is thoughtful and efficient.
The vacation property in particular and the neighborhood generally has incredible views of the San Juan Mountains and Mesa Verde. The sunrises and sunsets are usually breathtaking. The rentals are a 30-minute drive to the Mesa Verde Visitor Center at the entrance to the National Park. The cabins are 15 minutes from the city of Cortez, which is host to quite a few yelp-recommended restaurants, and 10 minutes from the town of Dolores. You will need a car for transportation from the property to Mesa Verde or Cortez. However, if you’re interested in relaxing, walking the land, and cooking gourmet food with organic fresh-picked produce, you can just stay put at the cabin.
