What clubs did Vincent Kompany play for?

Vincent Kompany is best known for his 11 years at Manchester City between 2008 and 2019.

He previously had spells with Anderlecht and German side Hamburg.

Kompany signed for the club in August 2008, just before the club were purchased by Sheikh Mansour.

In his early games at City, Kompany played in defensive midfield, but it was when he moved back into defence that he really excelled.

He was named Premier League player of the season in 2010/11, as he helped Manchester City qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.

City also won the FA Cup this season, their first trophy for 35 years with a 1-0 win against Stoke at Wembley.

Kompany was named City captain ahead of the 2011/12 season ,which proved to be an outstanding one for the club.

He helped the side to their first league title in 44 years after a 3-2 win against QPR on the final day of the season.

An iconic goal from Sergio Aguero saw the Citizens win the league on goal difference, the first time this happened in Premier League football.

Kompany chipped in with important goals during the season, including a crucial header against Manchester United in April 2012, in a game City won 1-0.

City repeated this success in 2013/14, beating Liverpool to the post by two points.

On the last day of the season against West Ham, Kompany scored the second goal in a 2-0 win and lifted the trophy at the end of the match.

They also beat Sunderland to win the 2014 league cup final.

The arrival of Pep Guardiola signalled a new era for Manchester City, with the club winning the Premier League in 2018 with 100 points, the first team ever to achieve this feat.

He scored the second goal in a 3-0 win against Arsenal in the 2018 league cup final, once again showing that he was an asset at both ends of the pitch.

Kompany’s last season at the club brought perhaps his most iconic moment.

Drawing 0-0 against Leicester in May 2019, and needing a win to stay top of the league, Kompany unleashed a ferocious shot from outside the box that nestled in the top corner.

Man City won the game 1-0, and sealed their second consecutive Premier League title, finishing one point ahead of Liverpool.

They became the first team to complete the domestic treble in England, winning the League cup on penalties against Chelsea and the FA Cup against Watford, winning 6-0 in a record score line for the competitions’ final.

Kompany left at the end of that season following the expiry of his contract.

He made a total of 360 appearances for Man City, scoring 20 goals and winning 10 major honours.

He enjoyed success on the international stage as well, winning 89 caps for Belgium and captaining them to a third place finish at the 2018 World Cup.

He left Anderlecht in 2022, and was appointed manager of Burnley soon after.

Where is Vincent Kompany now?

Kompany made an immediate impact in his time as Burnley manager, helping the club return to the Premier League after they were relegated in 2022.

As well as this, he implemented an attractive attacking style of football that was not usually associated with the Clarets.

Due to the impressive nature of his instant success, Kompany is on the radar of a number of clubs.

Kompany was inducted into the Premier League hall of fame in 2022.
