Gigi hadid romance with Zayn Malik — and the birth of their daughter, Khai, in September 2020 — was not the first time that the supermodel’s love life grabbed everyone’s attention.
Hadid’s first major relationship in the public eye was with Cody Simpson. The pair dated on and off for two years before calling it quits for good in May 2015.
One month later, Hadid began dating Joe Jonas. The California native’s pal Cara Delevingne was a fan of their relationship and even gave them the ship name “G.I. Joe.” Hadid took a liking to the nickname and was spotted in Los Angeles with Jonas while wearing a T-shirt with the letters “G.I.” The twosome ended their romance in November 2015 after five months of dating.
Hadid moved on with Malik later the same month. The “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” singer admitted he made his move by simply asking Hadid out on a date.
“I just asked her [out]. It was pretty straight-up,” he recalled on SiriusXM’s The Morning Mash Up in December 2016. “A gentleman never tells the full details! But, yeah, we met and we spoke, and we went on a date.”
However, Hadid spilled a few details about their first date on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in February 2017.
“We played it cool for like ten minutes and then I was like, ‘You’re really cute,’” Hadid said at the time. “We connected like really quickly. We have kind of the same sense of humor and started sharing videos.”
Malik told Us Weekly in September 2017 that although their relationship is highly publicized, the duo try to just focus on themselves.
“We try not to think about [dating in the spotlight] too much,” he said at the time. “There are a lot of people who are too busy in other people’s lives. I just concentrate on my relationship and try to do right by my girlfriend and she does by me, and we hope for the best, as we all do!”
Despite calling it quits multiple times — most notably from January 2019 to January 2020 when she briefly dated Bachelorette alum Tyler Cameron — Hadid and Malik reconciled in early 2020, before welcoming their daughter later that year.
However, multiple sources confirmed to Us in October 2021 that the pair split again amid Yolanda Hadid‘s claims that she had a physical altercation with the musician. He was arrested and charged with four criminal offenses of harassment the month prior, and he pleaded no contest despite adamantly denying the allegations. “Zayn and Gigi have silently separated,” a source exclusively told Us. “They’d been having problems for a while and tried to figure them out, but it just wasn’t working.”
The duo “have a loving and caring relationship despite being broken up,” an insider told Us in June 2022, adding that they are focused on coparenting Khai as amicably as possible.

Cody Simpson
Hadid first met the Australian singer in 2013 when she appeared in his music video for “Surfboard.” The pair began dating later that year before their breakup in 2014. They reunited a few months later before splitting for a second time in May 2015. Simpson admitted that dating Hadid in the spotlight took a toll on their relationship.
“The highly publicized thing made me uncomfortable. Going out to dinner and there being all this paparazzi and stuff…. as soon as we split I had the realization that I was straying away from who I was as a whole person. I want to keep it low-key, and focus on my music,” Simpson told the magazine DuJour in June 2015, adding that their split was “an amicable, mutual decision.”
Daniel Sharman
The Tommy Hilfiger designer was rumored to be dating the Vampire Diaries star following her first break up from Simpson. Hadid and Sharman were first spotted getting cozy together in New York City in October 2014.
Joe Jonas
Jonas first met Hadid at the Grammy Awards when she was 13 years old. Hadid revealed in September 2015 that the Jonas Brothers member asked her out to a baseball game but she declined. The twosome began dating years later in June 2015 before breaking up in November of that year. Hadid began dating Malik a few weeks later, which prompted Jonas to admit in an interview with the Mirror in 2016 that he found it “interesting that she moved on so quickly.”
The former DNCE frontman later raised eyebrows while playing Plead the Fifth on Watch What Happens Live in July 2016. When host Andy Cohen asked him who he would marry, shag or kill, out of his exes Hadid, Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift — he promptly chose to kill Hadid.
Lewis Hamilton
Hadid was first linked to the Formula 1 World Champion in 2015 when they were spotted sitting together at the amfAR Gala that year. The pair reunited in March 2018 to film for a Tommy Hilfiger ad campaign, which sparked romance rumors once again.
Tyler Cameron
The former Bachelorette contestant began dating the Vogue cover star in July 2019, just days after he was seen on an overnight date with his ex-girlfriend Hannah Brown. A source told Us at the time that Hadid was “really into” Cameron. They made appearances together at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards afterparty and went out multiple times in New York City. Hadid even invited the Florida native to the Netherlands in September 2019 to attend her grandmother Ans van den Herik’s funeral. Us confirmed that their short-lived romance ended in October 2019.
Zayn Malik
Hadid and Malik began dating in 2015 with the former E! personality even starring in her boyfriend’s music video for “Pillowtalk” in 2016. The pair publicly announced their split to their fans in March 2018. However, three months later, the couple were spotted kissing in New York City. Us confirmed in January 2019 that Malik and Hadid had split for a second time. A source said at the time that Hadid “tried hard to make it work,” but Malik had “a lot of his own issues that she couldn’t help him get through.”
One year later, Hadid and Malik were photographed holding hands together while out to dinner in New York City. An insider told Us at the time that the duo were “trying to make it work.” Us confirmed in April 2020 that the couple are expecting their first child together.
Leonardo DiCaprio
Hadid and the Oscar winner were first linked in September 2022 after they were spotted hanging out at an afterparty during New York Fashion Week. “They’ve been having secret meetups and have been spending time together privately,” an insider told Us in October 2022, adding that the pair were “not serious” yet. “They’re very into each other and are seeing where things go.”
In February 2023, Us confirmed that the twosome called it quits after several months together. “They both have incredibly busy careers and lives, and although they tried to make time for each other, it really wasn’t enough to make things work,” a source told Us. “Gigi has no hard feelings toward Leo and she thinks he’s an incredible guy. Their timing just couldn’t align, and they’ve decided to go their separate ways.”
