Marvel has continued to garner fans’ attention with their anticipated projects that would continue their superhero legacy. With the era of new superheroes, the franchise has continued to utilize its mighty saviors with new plots. While it has already unveiled the upcoming superhero projects, there is a film that hasn’t been hinted at for quite a long.

In 2021, a report got viral which stated that a World War Hulk movie was likely in development for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Since then, this project became the most awaited as The Incredible Hulk was the only MCU Hulk movie that came out in 2008. While this film could majorly impact the universe, a recent report suggests otherwise.

The 2008 film, The Incredible Hulk was the second project in Phase 1 of the MCU. Starring Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, the film received mixed reactions however grossed $264.8 million worldwide. While the franchise continued to grow, Norton was replaced by Mark Ruffalo to portray the Hulk character for future MCU projects starting with The Avengers in 2012.
When the development of a World War Hulk movie came to the surface, fans couldn’t hold their excitement as it would mean that he would be the prominent character in the film. However, a tweet from Divinity Seeker shared that the movie was never been discussed in the franchise in the first place.

For Marvel to use Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk as a leading character, they would need to compensate Universal Studios as the latter holds the rights distribution rights of the character. This means that the franchise can utilize that character in their other projects but can’t work on him being the leading one.
Due to the same, The Incredible Hulk never had a sequel in the first place. However, MCU’s upcoming project, Captain America: New World Order is rumored to be bringing back the iconic character in the franchise.

The upcoming MCU project is the continuation of the 2021’s series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier which will see the character Sam Wilson continuing his duty as Captain America.
In the 2019 Avengers: Endgame, we saw Chris Evans’ Captain America handing over his shield to Anthony Mackie’s character who then on became the new Captain America. While this film will see him in lead, this film is bringing back three characters from the 2008 film.
As per reports, Tim Blake Nelson, who was last seen in the first Hulk film will reprise his role as Samuel Sterns aka The Leader. Harrison Ford has also been cast to play the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross after William Hurt’s demise who previously portrayed the character.
Not just that, Liv Tyler who was last seen in the 2008 film will reprise her role as Betty Ross in the upcoming film. With the involvement of the film’s important characters, many are speculating that Hulk might also appear in the film.
The film is set to release in the United States on May 3, 2024.
