Surprise gifts always feel good. But they’re even better when they are life-changing. An athletic director in Georgia experienced this firsthand at a school meeting where someone would give him a bigger gift than he could ever imagine.
Leon Hammond was called to the McIntosh High School library for what he thought was a celebration of his receiving an award. Leon was recently named AAAAA Region 3 Director of the Year. With the recent honor, he simply thought the school was helping him celebrate the achievement.

But it was so much better than that.
Aaron Reeves, a former Peachtree City policeman and school resource officer at McIntosh High School and a current U.S. Secret Service agent, came up to the front of the room and handed Leon a note.
The letter shared how Aaron, who had never met Leon before, is a match for the kidney transplant Leon desperately needed. Fox 5 Atlanta reported that Aaron’s wife read about Leon’s need for a new kidney, so he decided to get tested.
It must have been meant to be, because out of 10 possible candidates, it was determined that Aaron was the perfect match. Just in time, too, because Leon shared that he was about to get car magnets made that read: “I need a kidney donation.” Instead, he and Aaron get matching t-shirts that read “Kidney Buddies For Life!”
In February 2023 the long-anticipated transplant finally happened, and everyone pulled through nicely.
Share this story to celebrate Aaron’s timely gift and Leon’s new chance at life.
