Chris Pratt opened up about meeting his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, while on The Drew Barrymore Show on Tuesday.
The Guardians of the Galaxy actor, 43, gushed over seeing her for the first time when he was at church while he was on the Ever After actress’s talk show to promote his new film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
He explained to Barrymore, 48, that ‘there was a moment in my life where I was really struggling and felt really broken,’ before he met Katherine, 33.
Pratt went on to tell the whole story about how he met the rising author ‘five, maybe six years ago. God has a fast-forward button, you know, when it’s right, boom.
‘You get hit, you fall in love, you get married, now we have two beautiful daughters to add to my family. It feels really great.’
The Jurassic World actor also shares his 10-year-old son Jack with his ex-wife Anna Farris, who he was married to from 2009-2018.
‘There was a moment in my life where I was really struggling and felt really broken. For me, my own journey of finding a higher power and leaning on that and feeling like, “Please save me,” and feeling saved,’ Pratt shared.
‘And shortly later, meeting the woman of my dreams. It’s all about timing. There’s a perfect plan out there for you. You have to have faith.’
The Charlie’s Angels actress then asked him if he had met his now-wife in a place of faith, to which he responded, ‘Yeah, we met at a church. I was in the front row of church.
‘And you kind of don’t want to be like, “Woah, who’s that?” at church. But I was sneaking some glances and wondering, “Who is that? Anyway, what am I doing? Come on, I’m broken, help me. But who’s that?”‘
He continued, ‘So we hit it off. We didn’t start dating right away, but we met there and, later on, ended up going out.’
The pair welcomed their first daughter Lyla in 2020, only a year after they got married, and their second daughter Eloise in 2022.
Last month, Katherine made an appearance on Drew’s show to talk about her book The Gift of Forgiveness, which was brought up during Chris’s interview.
The Scream actress mentioned that when Katherine was on the show, ‘I bonded with her on her book about forgiveness, which I think is such a powerful thing.’
The book ‘chronicles seven different stories and their own journeys with forgiveness, and there’s nothing about it that says you need to do it one way, or you need to do it another,’ according to Pratt.
‘She was just really looking at people in their forgiveness journeys, and it’s a fabulous book.’
He then joked, ‘And when I screw up, I say, “Hey, remember your book. Remember, forgiveness is a gift, honey, so you should probably forgive me.”‘
The Passengers actor was a guest on the show as a part of the press tour for his newest film, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which releases in theaters on April 5.
Since being cast as the titular character, there has been some discourse from fans on whether he was the right choice to voice the iconic Italian video game character.
During an interview with Gizmodo that was released last week, Pratt spoke about the controversy regarding his casting.
He expressed that he understood that the longtime fans of the Mario franchise were particularly invested in the integrity of the character.
‘I totally get it, man. There’s a passionate fan base, and I’m one of the fans. I get it. Mostly, people don’t want something like this to get screwed up. They’re precious about it. They’re careful. And I’m grateful for that,’ he said.
The Parks and Recreation alum then remarked that he had put in his best effort to faithfully represent the Nintendo character while working on the feature.
The performer stated: ‘I care just as much as everyone else to make sure that doesn’t get screwed up.’
Pratt also stars alongside several big-name actors in the film, including Charlie Day (Luigi), Jack Black (Bowser), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), and Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong).
