Chelsea offer to pay off Rafael Leao’s €20m debt to Sporting if he makes Chelsea move
Football Italia are reporting that Chelsea have spoken to Rafael Leao about a potential move, and have in fact offered to pay the €20m that the winger owes to Sporting Lisbon if the Portugal winger moves to Stamford Bridge this summer.
They add that Sporting president Frederico Varandas was in London this week for talks, presumably about other players as well as this rather complex legal situation, which sees Leao in debt to Sporting after deciding to unilaterally leave on a free to join Lille in 2018.
We are extremely sceptical about this whole report however. Chelsea are absolutely overloaded with players, especially in attacking positions, and signing Leao before they’ve shifted 2 or 3 of the options they already have would be total madness.
Once again, it seems more likely that agents are using our potential interest to get their clients a better deal in Milan, a negotiation which seemed like it was progressing well over the last couple of months.
