A new Buick GNX would be a killer muscle car, giving the 2024 Ford Mustang a run for its money and reviving an iconic American automotive name.
There is soon to be something missing from the General Motors and Chevrolet stable. That is of a great muscle car, as the Camaro bids farewell in a rather lackluster fashion. With the Dodge Challenger and Camaro also bowing out and set to go electric, the way is clear for the 2024 Ford Mustang to keep the muscle car alive. But there is a chance for GM to fight back. That is by bringing back the old classic that is the Buick GNX.
As unlikely as that might seem right now, there is good reason to think it will steal the 2024 Mustang’s thunder. The revival of the GNX will see an iconic name make its return. Something we recreated digitally too, thanks to a stunning rendering by our very own Rostislav Prokop.
A New Buick GNX Could Improve Upon The Sixth-Gen Camaro
One of the big problems with the outgoing sixth-generation of the Chevrolet Camaro is that it started to feel incredibly old. Chevrolet improved the model very little over the last few years of its existence, causing the V8 muscle car to feel stale. This, as you might expect, also saw sales fall dramatically. The Camaro was consistently the poorest selling muscle car in recent years. The final edition of the Camaro is also nothing more than a special, repainted edition, unlike the rather spectacular Dodge Challenger Demon 170.
As our renderings speculated, a new GNX could be based upon the outgoing Camaro. But handing the muscle car platform over to Buick could revive its fortunes. Buick could rework the chassis, suspension and core components to enhance the performance of a new GNX. With their prowess in luxury cars, Buick could also give the interior of any new GNX a thorough revamp. Creating a muscle car that can also ride like a luxury tourer. A fresh approach from Buick could well elevate the former Camaro into an exciting and Mustang beating muscle car.
A Revived GNX Would Bring An Iconic Name Back
As iconic as the Camaro name is, there is almost something more special about the GNX name. The performance of the original really set it apart from its rivals, developed in conjunction with McLaren of course. Its Garret T-3 turbocharged engine produced potentially over 300 hp. This after conservative estimates from Buick. The company’s focus is now more on the Chinese market, where most of its models are now sold. SUVs and sedans filled with luxury are what Buick now specialize in, but things can change quickly in the automotive world.
The GNX name is still one of the most well known and iconic in the history of Buick. As iconic as the Camaro, and so its return would be big news for both Buick and the automotive world as a whole. Popular with the consumer and potentially those within General Motors as well. It may even give Buick more of a stamp in the US market. While they are still selling vehicles in North America, the range is nothing like it was a few decades ago. Replacing one iconic name with another in the GM muscle car sphere seems like the perfect solution.
Will Buick Make A New 2024 GNX?
While nothing is impossible in the automotive world, right now the chances of a new 2024 GNX are quite unlikely. There is no official word as to what may or may not replace the Camaro, if there is one coming. The current rumors are an all-electric sedan will replace the aging muscle car. Yet it will apparently also have similar design cues. Perhaps then it would make sense for another brand to take on the muscle car future for GM. Dodge is going all-electric with its muscle cars. But Ford is showing that ICE muscle cars can live on for one last generation.
Perhaps, were Buick to take over, then the A2XX platform for the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 could be the car’s underpinnings. Or, something that would be even better, how about a brand-new platform from Buick? To create something totally fresh to rival the 2024 Mustang.
A New Buick GNX Would Worry The 2024 Mustang
The 2024 Ford Mustang would have some stiff competition if the GNX were to make its return. The competition between Ford and GM is as fierce as ever. With vehicles like the F-150 Lightning and Silverado EV currently facing off against each other. With GM now knowing exactly what the 2024 Mustang has to offer, they could take all that knowledge to create a muscle car that is even better. Then there is the potential for a hybrid or electric version in the future too, to take the fight to Dodge and perhaps an electric Mustang. For now, it’s just a dream, but a new Buick GNX would be just the ticket.
