The 2024 Maserati Quattroporte will be a radical departure from its past. The new EV will produce about 1000 hp, garnering a wild Tesla’s attention.
Tesla is the first to roll off the tongue when talking about EVs. The billionaire-backed US marque has built an automotive empire on electric motors and batteries. But they lack three things that draw a specific breed of gearheads. That is a century’s history of making sports cars, Italian luxury, and a Maserati badge.
The 2024 Maserati Quattroporte EV will be a radical departure from the previous model years. The Italian automaker decided to electrify it, similar to the GranTurismo Folgore trim that we’re already given insight into. Fans are yet to learn more details about the luxury sports sedan, but what we do know reveals a new dramatic European competitor for Tesla.
Italian craftsmanship will not be the new Quattroporte’s only strong suit. The electric car will produce enough power to even match the mighty Tesla Model S Plaid.
Maserati Quattroporte EV Will Feature A New DesignMaserati
The Quattroporte was never an ordinary car. Back in the 1960s, Series I and Series II were enormous sedans powered by V8 engines. In the 2000s, Maserati switched to the Maserati M139 platform and aligned the trademark’s exterior designs with the newer GranTurismo sports cars. We saw the trend of similar designs continues all the way to 2023. As many would put it, the Quattroporte is a GranTurismo with four doors and a larger body. The 2024 Quattroporte EV will break the tradition, Maserati CEO Davide Grass confirms.
Davide Grasso provided Autocar with a sneak peek into the brand’s upcoming electric car, which he describes as “unmistakably a Maserati” but also a “disruptive design project”. According to Autocar, the car is expected to draw inspiration from the latest GranTurismo and Grecale models but with an added focus on aerodynamic efficiency. Grasso also hinted that the electric powertrain will define the car’s radical new look. As other car manufacturers regularly demonstrate, a brand’s electric cars do not look like the rest of the line-up. Yet, this isn’t the case with the GranTurismo: the 2024 Folgore looks identical in all but color to the Modena and Trofeo.
The CEO emphasized the upcoming sedan’s standout qualities, and they’re everything but budget-friendly. The Quattroporte will radiate lavishness and a distinct “Italian flair”. No one is certain of what that will be like since the only EVs with an Italian flair are the GranTurismo and the Grecale Folgore models. Apart from the Quattroporte, we are also equally excited about the highly-anticipated Alfa Romeo Giulia EV. The new Quattroporte is likely to have a lot in common with the Giulia while mixed with a unique Maserati flavor.
The interior will rhyme with classic Quattroporte, with spacious, comfortable seats. As is the case with EVs, the Maserati sedan will likely feature a cabin embedded with exclusive EV technology. However, it is reasonable to mix all of that with a new height of luxury to match the new exterior design. We are yet to hear official details about the environment drivers, and passengers will be seated in.
The Quattroporte EV Will Match The Tesla Model S In PowerMaserati
Even for gearheads that have a distaste for soulless EVs, electrification does have a silver lining to it. Electric cars perform better, churn out insane horsepower and torque figures, and accelerate better than their ICE counterparts. Now, we are yet to hear the official performance figures for the 2024 Maserati Quattroporte EV. But we do know that Maserati snatched away its rumbling powerplant and rebuilt the car on the STLA Medium platform.
The STLA platform is the Stellantis replacement for the existing Giorgio platform and is a solution to EV range anxiety. The medium variant will deliver up to 435 miles, according to the CEO. STLA will be the underpinning for Stellantis EVs across the decade, with the Quattroporte EV being one of the first to ride it.
Coming to the best part, the new STLA Medium platform will allow the 2024 Maserati Quattroporte EV to produce immense power. The figures, like all the rest, are not official yet, but the 2024 Quattroporte EV Trofeo trims will likely have close to 1000 hp. This will come in a standard AWD configuration, giving the sedan crazy acceleration and traction.
For comparison, the Tesla Model S base version produces 670 horsepower with two electric motors, and the trimotor Plaid variant produces 1,020 hp. That’s right, the Quattroporte will catch up with the Tesla Model S Plaid as well. The sedan will not be alone in Maserati’s high-powered EV lineup, as the new GranTurismo Folgore coupe will feature an electric powertrain capable of 760 horses.
How Much Will A 2024 Maserati Quattroporte EV Cost?Maserati
Maserati is never shy to place a price on their hot commodities. The new Quattroporte EV will leap over the current generation’s price, expected to reach a starting price of over $150,000. It is likely that the price will go all the way up to $175,000. CEO David Grasso stated, “We are for those that are willing to pay a premium to have a unique performance and luxury experience”.
The most expensive Tesla Model S Plaid starts with an MSRP of $107,490. But then again, Tesla only matches the 2024 Quattroporte EV in power. The gap in price resembles Italian luxury and a century’s history behind the badge, which Tesla doesn’t have.
