Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s lives weren’t the only ones that changed when the pair eloped in July 2022.
In a new interview promoting her action-packed rom-com, Shotgun Wedding, with Josh Duhamel, the triple threat opened up their blended family. Affleck shares three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner: 17-year-old Violet Anne, 13-year-old Seraphina Rose, and 10-year-old Samuel. Meanwhile, Lopez (or, as she’s now known legally, Jennifer Lynn Affleck) shares 14-year-old twins Max and Emme with her ex, Marc Anthony.
“We moved in together, the kids moved in together, so it’s been like a really kind of emotional transition but at the same time, like, all your dreams coming true,” she said in an interview with Today, which aired on January 16. “It’s just been a phenomenal year. Like, my best year, I think, since my kids were born.”
During the interview, Lopez described her husband as “dreamy” and a “sweetheart,” before opening up about her upcoming album This Is Me…Now, which just so happens to be dedicated to the actor. TIMN was announced 20 years after the release of her 2002 album This Is Me…Then, which documented Lopez and Affleck’s first love story.
As she told Today, “It’s been such a journey. The thing that I think I’ve been wondering about my whole life is, like, is love real? Does true love exist?” She added, “It’s two people kind of coming together and saying, you know, I’m gonna be here no matter what. And we’re gonna get through it together.”
In a November 2022 interview with Zane Lowe, Jennifer Lopez said she and Affleck had to “tread lightly and carefully” with their kids when they first fell back in love in the Spring of 2021. “We had our kids and we had to tread lightly and carefully so they could come along with us…Because they didn’t live those years before,” she said. “And they’re like, ‘Wow, they’ve known each other forever.’ And that’s it. We did know each other forever, and we had to live these separate paths and we did other beautiful things and we had these amazing children.”
She continued, “Once we got whole enough and complete enough and loved ourselves enough and could stand on our own two feet really completely, as the universe would have it, we were brought into each other’s lives again. And it was a crack in the clouds and that song came through and it was like, ‘Boom, that’s it.’ And we were both very sure.”
