The Bulls already saw what lacking a true point guard looks like, and reprising the act come October would be a foolish decision.
After a disappointing season that concluded with a play-in loss to the Miami Heat, the Chicago Bulls have their work cut out for them entering 2023-24. If the Bulls hope to be in playoff contention, they must find a replacement for the injured Lonzo Ball. Looking at realistic options, the Bulls could target Memphis Grizzlies guard Tyus Jones in a trade.
What Tyus Jones Would Bring to the Bulls

Jones is coming off a career year in which he averaged 10.3 points and 5.2 assists per game. While those numbers don’t match Ball’s stat line, it’s important to remember that Jones played behind Grizzles’ star guard Ja Morant. If Jones came to Chicago, he would receive more touches and have sufficient scoring options to distribute the ball to.
Jones would also help fix one of the Bulls’ biggest flaws: turnovers. In his career, Jones has 2,108 assists to 400 turnovers. He finished second in the league with a 5.4 assist-to-turnover ratio this past season. Meanwhile, the Bulls’ closest player was Patrick Beverley at 3.3, which was good for 14th.
Furthermore, Jones could help the Bulls improve their shooting from beyond the arc. He shot 37.1 percent on 4.1 attempts per game in 2022-23. Again, it’s not Ball’s impressive 42.3 percent on 7.1 attempts per game, but it’s still a respectable clip, and Jones could see a jump in his numbers playing alongside Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan.
