With an engine from the 911 GT3, the fastest Porsche Boxster ever will soon hit the streets and tracks.
The Porsche Boxster has come a long way since it debuted almost 30 years ago as an entry-level model for the German automaker. Now the C-Suite in Stuttgart is taking the Boxster to even higher levels with the 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS.
The new sports car marks the first time that the engine from the 911 GT3 gets used in a mid-engine convertible, according to the company. It’s an approach that Porsche already employs with the 718 Cayman GT4 RS.
“With an engine taken directly from racing, the 718 Spyder RS offers a driving experience like no other,” says Kjell Gruner, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America.
A Potent Powertrain For The Porsche 718 Spyder RS
Matching the specs of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS coupe, the Porsche 718 Spyder RS gets motivated by a 4.0-liter six-cylinder boxer engine that produces 493 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque. Like its hardtop counterpart, the 718 Spyder RS delivers a maximum engine range of 9,000 rpm.
The company promises a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds, 0.5 seconds quicker than the current 718 Spyder (without the RS designation), thanks to an extra 79 horsepower. A short-ratio seven-speed PDK transmission manages the rear wheels.
Availability And Pricing For The 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS
The automaker expects the 2024 Porsche 718 Spyder RS to reach U.S. dealers next spring. However, it will showcase the car at an anniversary celebration this summer and at England’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Porsche is giving the 718 Spyder RS a starting price of $160,700, excluding delivery charges. Options include the company’s trademark Weissach Package.
