Sylvie had been tossed onto the streets like yesterday’s trash. For months, residents in the San Antonio, Texas neighborhood ignored the street dog who had lacerations all over her body, barely any coat with scabs covering her raging red skin and emaciated body. Still Sylvie scrounged around for food; she so wanted to live and find her way home.
And then the unthinkable happened. Sylvie had not been paying attention to the dangers of the street and was struck by a vehicle – injuring her hind leg so badly, she couldn’t put any weight on it. Still no one stopped to help her; that is until a Good Samaritan spotted her on the streets and called for assistance. Animal Control officers arrived, and Sylvie was brought to the San Antonio Animal Shelter; at the very least she was finally off the streets, given some food and had a safe place to sleep – at least for a few days.
Who would want a nearly bald Border collie mix; a poor suffering dog only one-year-old? That was when animal advocates contacted Stacey Silverstein, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC and asked for help:
“AS WE KNOW, THE SHELTER IS NOT A SAFE HAVEN AND WITHOUT HELP FROM A RESCUE TO SAVE SYLVIE, SHE WOULD NOT SURVIVE,” EXPLAINED STACEY ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AFTER POSTING THE PHOTOS OF THE EMACIATED AND HAIRLESS YOUNG DOG ON THE RESCUE ORGANIZATION’S FACEBOOK PAGE. “WE SAW SYLVIE AND DECIDED WE COULD NOT LET HER SUFFER ANOTHER MOMENT AND CONTACTED THE SHELTER AND AGREED TO HELP HER – JUST AN INNOCENT PUPPY WHO DIDN’T ASK TO BE DISREGARDED LIKE DIRT.”
Sylvie has been transferred to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC partner veterinarian, where for the first time in a long time, Sylvie is being treated with kindness and able to sleep a full night without fear of being harmed. At this point, Sylvie is listed in critical condition.
