Thierry Henry has already endorsed the double signing of Victor Osimhen and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as Chelsea look to further bolster their frontline. The Napoli duo have both been heavily linked with moves to the Premier League this summer following their impressive performances in the Italian topflight.
Osimhen, who sees his contract expire in 2025, has featured 29 times for Luciano Spalletti’s side in the Serie A this season, scoring 23 goals. The 24-year-old’s eye-catching displays have caught the attention of numerous top clubs around Europe, with the Blues being one.
football.london understands that Chelsea are in the market for a new striker this summer and they’re considering a move for Osimhen. However, it’s believed that Napoli are adamant the Nigeria international will not leave in the upcoming transfer window, whatever the offer.
The west Londoners are in desperate need of a talisman, and Osimhen has been identified as somebody who can spurs the club on following a disappointing season. As for Kvaratskhelia, he’s featured 31 times for Napoli in the Italian topflight this term, registering 25 goals and assists – nine of which were a product of a fruitful relationship on the pitch with Osimhen.
The 22-year-old winger has been turning heads recently, with some supporters even nicknaming him ‘Kvaradona’ after Diego Maradona. According to Italian publication Il Mattino, as quoted by the Express, Chelsea have enquired about Kvaratskhelia and are considering a bid for him too.
While supporters can be excited by the Georgia international’s potential arrival, Mykhailo Mudryk would be wondering how he fits in the Blues side. Nevertheless, Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry have already given the £161million-rated Napoli duo their seal of approval.
Speaking on CBS Sports after Gli Azzurri’s 3-0 win against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League Round of 16, back in March, the former Liverpool defender said branded the Kvaratskhelia as the ‘most exciting player in Europe’.
“Kvaratskhelia, for me, I think is the most exciting player in Europe,” said Carragher. “I’m not saying the best, but he’s just come from nowhere. I think he scored a goal at the weekend when he cut inside?”
To which Henry replied: “Yes. Osimhen gave him the ball. Those two, crazy.” Then, on Kvaratskhelia, the former Arsenal forward added: “He can press, he can hold the ball, he can see a pass.
“He has legs to go on the break with Osimhen, this is why they understand each other very well because when Osimhen opens his legs it is not easy to keep up with him, but he’s with him all the time. He’s just the full package.”
