The cinematic world of the Hollywood entertainment industry recognizes Johnny Depp as one of the most prominent figures.
With his commendable verve in acting, Johnny received various prestigious accolades in his metier of cinema. Because of his influential persona and theatrical flair, Depp has an enormous fan following. However, once the actor felt that he was just a burnout as a teen, and aspired to be like the martial arts demigod, Bruce Lee.
From becoming a teen idol in 21 Jump Street to making his presence known worldwide through his meritorious acting as Captain Jack Sparrow, the 59-year-old actor came a long way. But, as a teenager, Johnny felt that he does not belong to the crowd, as he considered himself as a burnout. And thus, he strived to become just like his childhood idol, Bruce Lee.
Johnny Depp aspired to be like Bruce Lee
In 1998, Mr. Stench appeared in an interview with the Outsider and reminisced various interesting anecdotes from his life. Interestingly, in one narrative, he recalled his teenage days. Recalling his desire to be a part of a tactical unit in high school, Depp expressed his admiration for Lee.
Explaining his persona as a high schooler, the colonel stated, “In my high school, there were different classes of people: the jocks, the smart kids, and the rednecks. Then there were the burnouts. I was one of the burnouts”.
Depp further elaborated on his then-resistive personality by adding, “None of the girls wanted to hang out with me”. Moreover, the Captain felt that he “was just, you know, kind of weed-head: a weird kid”.
However, in order to fit in as a teen, the young Depp hankered to be just like the legendary fighter, Bruce Lee. The actor conceded his desire by stating, “I wanted to be Bruce Lee”. He then further added his wish “to be on the SWAT team”. Clearly, Johnny Depp idolized the Little dragon as a teen and wanted to follow in his footsteps.
While Johnny is widely regarded for his acting prowess, he also has a meticulous physique which he likes to maintain. The Pirates of the Caribbean actor also religiously follows a workout and a disciplined dietary regime. He aspired not only to be like the Little Phoenix, but he also acted diligently upon his desire to be like Lee.
