Ahead of Matchday 17 of Ligue 1, Paris Saint-Germain’s attacking trio continue to dominate the top spots in the league’s individual standings.
Having just played their final game of 2022, Paris Saint-Germain once again pulled out all the stops to give the Parc des Princes one last dose of emotion at home to Strasbourg, as they snatched a late win to savour and thereby kept up their unbeaten streak.
Whilst Paris still sit top of the league, their players are also occupying the top spots in the individual standings. Following Matchday 16, Christophe Galtier’s inevitable attacking trio remain at the top of both the goals and the assists charts.
Unsurprisingly, it’s Kylian Mbappé, the top scorer at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar (eight goals scored) as well as in the Champions League so far this season (seven goals scored), who currently dominates the Ligue 1 goalscorer standings with 13 goals.
As a side note, the Bondy native has also bagged himself another record, as his match-winning penalty was scored after 95 minutes and 41 seconds, making it the latest league goal in Paris Saint-Germain history and the second-latest across all competitions, clocking in just before Antoine Kombouaré’s goal against Real Madrid (95:55).
After those who score the goals, let’s move onto those who make them. Who else but Leo Messi, the second-highest scorer and top assist provider at the World Cup with seven goals and three assists to his name, could possibly be leading the way in the French league’s assists chart? The no. 30 remains out in front with no fewer than ten assists.
This weekend, though, after Neymar Jr’s superb free kick helped Marquinhos to open the scoring, the Brazilian joins his Argentine teammate at the top. Having been involved in 21 goals in his 15 appearances in a red and blue shirt so far this season, the no. 10 has quite simply contributed to the most goals of any player in the league, as he has either scored or set one up every 54 minutes during the current campaign.
