Marcus Rashford has revealed he was dropped by Erik ten Hag for being late to a team meeting following Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Wolves on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was surprisingly named as a substitute for United’s trip to Wolves before Ten Hag revealed before kick off that the forward was on the bench due to an ‘internal disciplinary’ issue.

Rashford was brought on at half time and managed to score the winner with 14 minutes remaining to secure a vital win for United, which puts them fourth in the Premier League table.

Speaking after the game, Rashford stressed that he is keen to move on quickly after being reprimanded by Ten Hag.

‘Obviously, it’s the team rules and it’s a mistake that can happen,’ Rashford told BT Sport.

‘I’m obviously disappointed not to play [from the start] but I understand the decision, ultimately, I’m happy we managed to win the game anyway.

‘I think we can draw a line under it and move on.’

When asked for the specific reason why he was dropped, Rashford said: ‘I was a little bit late for a meeting.

‘I slept in, overslept, it can happen.’

Rashford also believes the victory against Wolves shows a clear sign of United’s progression under Ten Hag.

‘I think I’m in a good place. I’m just pleased with the way we’re progressing,’ Rashford said.

‘In the past we could’ve easily lost that game, or definitely draw it.

‘Even with scoring one goal they put a lot of pressure on us, we stood up to it and defended well, David [De Gea] had to make one massive save at the end, and a good save from a free kick as well.

‘It’s a difficult game and we’ve always found it difficult to come here and win but we managed to do that today.

‘I mentioned before it’s difficult to come back [from the World Cup] because emotion-wise everyone’s at different levels, different stages, but it’s been important for us to stick together and help each other through a difficult moment for the lads who didn’t win the World Cup, basically.’
