Dwayne Johnson is one of the few celebrities who have managed to do a complete career reinvention, transitioning from a superstar wrestler to a movie star. Over the course of Johnson’s legendary career, the star has broken many records and set a number of lofty goals. This includes being named one of the 100 “Most Influential People” by Time Magazine in 2016 and 2019 and winning the MTV Generation Award in 2019. However, he has been transparent about his interactions with fans being one of his favorite parts of his job. And in 2015, Dwayne Johnson proved it by setting a world selfie record.

In the mid-’90s, Dwayne Johnson rose to fame as a wrestler, hitting the ring for the World Wrestling Foundation and making a name for himself as an over-the-top athlete with a personality that shone brightly. Over the years, it became clear that wrestling alone wouldn’t be enough to contain Johnson. In 2002, he made a big movie appearance in The Scorpion King, the film that would serve as his launchpad to a major Hollywood career.
Two years later, in 2004, Johnson left the WWE in order to focus on his movie career. Ultimately, Johnson would return to the world of wrestling several times in the years that followed, either as a part-time performer or guest star. But it has been his work in the entertainment industry that really brought his career to the next level. Johnson has appeared in major Hollywood blockbusters such as San Andreas, Central Intelligence, Hercules, Skyscraper, Jungle Cruise, and the Fast & Furious films.
Dwayne Johnson set a world selfie record in 2015
Dwayne Johnson never misses a chance to stop and chat with fans, often documenting his encounters on social media. Johnson’s dedication to his fans is so intense, in fact, that he actually broke a world selfie record in 2015.
When he was at the premiere of his film San Andreas, he set the Guinness World Record title for most selfies taken in 3 minutes, which he did with 105 fans. Johnson made sure to have officials on hand to make sure that the selfies were all qualifying, in focus, and featuring the full face and neck of the subjects.
After officially breaking the record, Johnson took to Instagram to share the achievement. He wrote, “World premiere of San Andreas and rewriting the record books all in one night. #MicDropBoom #NewSelfieKing.” Ultimately, the record was broken by Donnie Wahlberg one year later.

During this event, he honored military members by gathering a variety of big-name musicians like Jack Black and Nick Jonas.
Johnson also doesn’t mind making fun of himself. He often re-posts hilarious memes and pictures — like the infamous photo of a younger Johnson wearing a fanny pack. It is his willingness to mock himself and other authority figures. By maintaining his humble nature, he has endeared him so much to fans.
