Goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga’s disastrous handling of Chelsea’s goal against Man City has been questioned by many fans about “purity”.
In the 63rd minute, Jack Grealish had the ball in the penalty area on the left side and made a cross for Riyad Mahrez. Kepa seemed to have guessed Grealish’s intentions, so he moved quite proactively.
However, somehow, the Spaniard let the ball go and passed his face without any resistance, creating conditions for Mahrez to easily cushion the ball into the empty goal.
From the perspective of Man City, it was a neat attack arrangement, but fans still couldn’t understand why Kepa could handle it like that. The speed of the tension ball is not too strong and is completely within Kepa’s reach.
An angry fan: “Investigate kepa for match-fixing because I really can’t understand it”.
Another fan said: “We just saw Kepa fix the match but we’re going to blame Potter after the game, right?”.
A third commented: “Did Kepa choose not to catch that? Is he fixing the match?”
The fourth said: “Investigate Kepa about match-fixing”.
Kepa, a £71m signing from Bilbao, has taken Edouard Mendy’s lead under Potter. He played quite impressively before making a mistake against Man City with a confusing decision.
The defeat against Man City made Chelsea drop to 10th in the 2022/23 Premier League with 25 points, 10 points behind the Top 4 group. On January 8, Chelsea will once again face Man City, this time in the third round of the FA Cup.
