Upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania just entered the quantum realm courtesy of a newly-released poster
The poster comes courtesy of the official Marvel Entertainment Twitter account. It spotlights the third Ant-Man movie’s Quantum Realm setting, which serves as a striking backdrop for its core cast of heroes and villains. These characters include Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Hope van Dyne/Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors). The new Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania poster also features the sequel’s strapline, which invites MCU fans to “Witness the beginning of a new dynasty” when the film premieres in February 2023.
The poster arrives hot on the heels of the latest full-length Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer. This new promotional footage devotes a considerable amount of its runtime to Kang, in stark contrast to the supervillain’s relatively brief appearance in earlier trailers. Notably, it establishes Kang’s hold over Scott Lang in the upcoming sequel, as the time-traveling baddie tempts Lang with the prospect of regaining the five years he lost in the wake of Avengers: Infinity War. The trailer also shows off Kang’s impressive power levels, most notably when he cuts loose with blinding blasts of energy in the trailer’s closing moments.
Kang Actor Talks Thanos’ Influence
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will reportedly set up Kang as the MCU’s next overarching antagonist, filling the void left by Josh Brolin’s Thanos. Majors discussed how Brolin’s portrayal of Thanos influenced his take on Kang in a recent interview, praising the depth Brolin brought to his performance. “What Josh Brolin did so beautifully with Thanos was that he tried to make him as three-dimensional as possible to make it very clear, you know, and he really believed in it,” Majors said. “Which is why I think it was so morally ambiguous as to how bad he is. And I also think that the more villainous you are, and the more anti-anti-hero you are, the deeper your constitution has to be. I think with Kang, my objective with every role I play is to make them as universal and as human as possible.”
That said, Majors remains adamant that fans should avoid drawing comparisons between Kang and Thanos. The star recently insisted the two villains represent “completely different worlds,” while also acknowledging that it was inevitable MCU fans would compare them to each other.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania arrives in theaters on Feb. 17, 2023.
