Tom Cruise showed off his daredevil side in a clip he posted to Twitter Sunday, thanking fans for their support for Top Gun: Maverick while filming a skydiving sequence for the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.
In the clip, Cruise was in an aircraft over South Africa alongside collaborator Christopher McQuarrie, 54, who penned the script for Top Gun: Maverick and is directing parts one and two of the Mission: Impossible movie.
The A-list actor, 60 – who last week received a Best Actor nomination from the AARP awards for his role in Top Gun: Maverick – told his fans he wanted to show his gratitude as the holidays approach.
‘Hey everyone, here we are over stunning South Africa, where we’re filming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning parts one and two,’ he said. ‘And I didn’t want the year to end without thanking you all for coming out to the theaters and thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick.’
McQuarrie reminded the leading man, ‘Listen, we really gotta roll, we gotta get the shot,’ reminding viewers that filming was taking place.
Cruise said, ‘Where was I? Oh yeah Thank you for supporting Top Gun: Maverick and thank you for allowing us to entertain you – it truly is the honor of a lifetime.’
Cruise, who is known for performing his own stunts, continued: ‘I’m running out of altitude, so I have to get back to work – we have to get this shot – you have a very safe and happy holiday, we’ll see you at the movies.’

This past September, Cruise, who portrays Ethan Hunt in the Mission Impossible film franchise, was seen in a sequence of shots as he stood atop a mid-air World War II-era biplane during a flight over Blyde River Canyon in South Africa.
He said in an adjacent clip, which had been displayed in April at CinemaCon: ‘Hi everyone! Wish I could be there with you – I’m sorry for all the extra noise. As you can see, we are filming the latest installment of Mission: Impossible, and right now we are over gorgeous Blyde Canyon in stunning South Africa.

‘We’re making this film for the big screen for audiences to see in your wonderful theaters,’ at which point McQuarrie was seen arriving into the frame in his own biplane.
McQuarrie told Cruise that they had to get back to production amid low fuel levels, to which he said, ‘Oh yeah, we gotta roll, huh? Low on fuel, that’s not good. I’m sorry, we’ve got to go.’
