Real Madrid ‘could plot to nab Erling Haaland from Manchester City’

Real Madrid are reportedly already thinking about signing Erling Haaland from Manchester City if they are punished for breaking financial rules.

In a bombshell announcement on Monday, the Premier League charged City with more than 100 financial rule breaches.

The charges against the reigning champions relate to financial information regarding revenue, details of manager and player remuneration, UEFA regulations, profitability and sustainability and co-operation with Premier League investigations.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Los Blancos are paying close attention to any sanctions the Sky Blues may face and whether the continuity of the Norwegian striker’s place at the Etihad can be guaranteed.

The Spanish giants are also said to be interested in the outcome because it could mean one less rival in the pursuit of Jude Bellingham.

The Norway international was one of last summer’s big signings with a move to City for just £51million.

Part of the deal is thought to have included a £128million release clause (€150m) into his contract.

The Premier League announced an unprecedented array of charges against City relating to a period between 2009 and 2018.

Should Man City be found guilty, they face a range of potential sanctions including a points deduction or even an expulsion.

It is understood that papers were served on City at the same time the Premier League announced the charges.

An executive-level phone call from the competition to the club also took place but no prior warning was given to the club.

In a statement, Manchester City said it was surprised by the alleged breaches.

It read: ‘Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with.

‘The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.
