Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has addressed his spat with a journalist last weekend and told people to only go for him ahead of a crunch Merseyside derby against Everton
Jurgen Klopp insists all the blame should be on him for Liverpool’s shocking season so far.
The Kop boss has been angered by fingers being pointed at backroom staff at the club amid their horror run. Liverpool are facing a mighty challenge to qualify for the Champions League after seventh defeats already this term ahead of tonight’s clash against Everton.
It led to Klopp refusing to take a question from a journalist after last weekend’s defeat by Wolves because of an article his website published. Klopp said: “It starts with being really emotional after the game because I hate losing – that will never change.
“And I know what you all think I did in the press conference but actually it was the lowest level of the aggression I had inside me.
“Of course I was not happy with a lot of things that happened but it wasn’t a reason for what happened I just don’t like it if you go for the wrong people. Go for me, that is fine, if you don’t like my answers you know best, but go for me that’s fine but don’t go for other people.
“[To say] they were much more influential in the good times than they are now is just not fair. So you go in there, you sit there, and I didn’t think before and then I saw and went ‘oh’ and then it comes up and then you react like that.
“But really I thought in the most respectful possible way – you may see that in a completely different way – but for me it was quite a stretch.”
Klopp is hoping a two-day break at the start of the week will have refreshed his side ahead of tonight’s game. The Kop boss took the time for a walk on his days off.
He added: “Oh, you cannot forget it it is just two days later it looks different, that’s how it is. Nothing special, was a lot on the phone, I had a lot of things to do, but I had the time for a long walk on the beach, which I did not do for a long time, then I had the wrong shoes.
“I realised when I arrived there. No, it was good. It settles, you think about it all the time.”
