Specifications of the F-16 Fighting Falcon, a US Fighter Jet Developed By General Dynamics
The United States (US) Fighter Jet is indeed known as one of the best. One of them is the F-16 Fighting Falcon developed by General Dynamics. Reporting from Sandboxx, the F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine fourth-generation multi-role fighter that entered service in 1978 for the US Air Force.
The goal of the F-16 Fighting Falcon was not to be a superior American fighter but rather to be an effective and cost-effective fighter over the more expensive Eagle variant.
The F-16 Fighting Falcon has played a critical role in American air power in every conflict since its introduction, and continues to serve in operations in support of the Global War on Terror.
This American fighter jet is 4.8 meters high, 14.8 meters long and 9.8 meters wide. With a takeoff weight of 16,875 kg. The speed of the F-16 Fighting Falcon reaches 1,500 mph or around 2,414 km/hour with a range of more than 3,221 km with a maximum altitude of 15 km.
According to the Air Force website, the F-16 Fighting Falcon is able to maneuver easily and provide a relatively inexpensive high-performance weapon system for the United States and allied nations. The fighter jet is equipped with one M-61A1 20mm multi-barreled cannon with 500 rounds of ammunition, and there is an external station that can accommodate six air missiles. The Fighter can load a 2,000 pound (907 kg) bomb, two AIM – 9 missiles, and two AIM-120 missiles. As well as two external fuel tanks weighing 2,400 pounds (1088 kg).
Several special features are also implemented in this aircraft such as the cockpit and bubble canopy which give the pilot a more flexible view on all sides. The avionics system that has been embedded in this aircraft will also help the pilot and crew to carry out accurate navigation processes.
In addition, this fighter aircraft also has a UHF and VHF plus radio for the landing system. There is also a modular warning system and countermeasures pod for use against air or surface electronic threats. This fighter jet has carried out several missions since its emergence, one of which was when it was deployed to the Persian Gulf in 1991 in support of Operation Desert Storm.
