1,000-HP Electric Alfa Romeo Giulia Coming Soon, Along With New SUVs and Maybe a Sports Car

Alfa is reportedly also taking deposits for a “6C” sports car it might not even make.

We know updated versions of the current Alfa Romeo Giulia sedan and Stelvio SUV likely soon will adopt the hot ‘n fresh looks of the newer, smaller Tonale SUV, but none of those models represent the future of the storied Italian automaker. The future is all-electric for Alfa Romeo, and it will begin with an all-new, all-electric version of the Giulia sedan said to be good for a whopping 1,000 horsepower, likely in its Quadrifoglio form. Here’s everything Alfa CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato says is in the cards when the brand goes all-in on EVs starting in 2025.

According to Imparato on a call with Car Magazine and others this week, the new Giulia will come to North America in 2025 as a purely electric, high-performance sedan, the brand’s first all-electric model in the U.S. It will get an 800-volt architecture, and is targeting 1,000 horsepower, all-wheel drive and up to 435 miles of range in Quadrifoglio guise on the European WLTP cycle. These stats track with those of the new Maserati GranTurismo Folgore, the EV version of the dramatic new two-door coupe that also lives under the global Stellantis brand umbrella alongside Alfa, Dodge, Chrysler, Fiat, Jeep, Ram, and others. Figure on some mechanicals from the Folgore making their way underneath these new electrified Alfas.

Of course, not every electrified Giulia will have 1,000 hp, and Alfa is targeting offerings from 350 hp up to 800 hp in the lower trims, likely with rear- and all-wheel drive variants available. According to Autocar’s report, Imparato quoted an “18-minute” rapid charge time, and suggested a Giulia-based SUV could come first.

Car reports Alfa is starting its EV overhaul with the Giulia sedan for its aerodynamic benefits, minimizing charging downtime on its first EV model versus a comparable larger SUV. One or two Giulia-based EV SUVs are also in the works, likely set to follow the 2025 Giulia with an introduction in 2026. One will likely retain the Stelvio name of the current model, and another will be similar in size, but adopt a different shape and name. A larger flagship SUV or sedan model is also on the cards for 2027 for the U.S. and China.

Interestingly, Imparato also confirmed that an all-new Alfa Romeo sports car is already taking deposits from potential customers, even though it hasn’t been greenlit for production yet. Imparato reportedly joked: “If I don’t make it, I’ll have to give back the down payments!” Alfa recently teased online that this car could be dubbed the 6C, following the nomenclature of the brand’s previous 4C and 8C sports car models.

Car reports Alfa has until April 17 to make a decision on its sports car, so it’s not guaranteed just yet. It’s unclear what sort of powertrain Alfa is targeting, though the company may still be working that out. One would imagine Alfa ends up offering at least an all-electric variant, to better align with its future all-EV lineup.
