John Aldridge trolls Wout Weghorst
Liverpool legend John Aldridge has savagely trolled Wout Weghorst after the Manchester United attacker touched the ‘this is Anfield’ sign prior to last Sundays Premier League clash.
The sign is a famous piece of Anfield heritage and is commonly touched by home players before walking onto the hallowed turf. Normally, opposition players refrain from touching the sign as a mark of respect.
Weghorst took the opposite approach and touched the sign in an attempt to ‘wind up’ Liverpool players. Clearly, this didn’t have the desired effect effect as Liverpool smashed United 7-0.
The Dutch striker has come in for criticism from both sets of fans for partaking in the tradition. Former Republic of Ireland striker Aldridge clearly wasn’t impressed, and jokingly posted to social media a picture of him ‘getting rid’ of Weghorst’s fingerprints from the sign.
“At an @alzheimerssoc event at Anfield. Just getting rid of Weghorst’s finger prints folks!!They don’t belong here ynwa,” wrote Aldridge.
United are back in action for the first time since the Anfield debacle when they take on Real Betis in the Europa League on Thursday evening.
