“They’re definitely going to do well” – Shaquille O’Neal praises Phoenix Suns’ unselfishness with Kevin Durant on the roster

According to Shaq, CP3 is the key to making the Suns’ new Big Four work.

Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal believes the Phoenix Suns and Kevin Durant partnership is working perfectly and predicts them to have a highly successful tenure together. He talked about it in the recent episode of The Big Podcast with Shaq.

“KD and Book are going to work, and it works because Book has always been an unselfish player. And it also works because Chris Paul is going to know how to read that. The first four minutes, you call plays and whatever, but when a guy gets hot, you’ve got to give it to him, and then if he misses a couple, Chris Paul is going to be smart enough to say, ‘Okay, he hasn’t touched the ball in a while let me see what he’s going to do,'” Shaq said.

“That’s good that Chris has those two options in the backcourt. When you have unselfish guys playing together they’re definitely going to do well,” O’Neal added.

The best first five?

O’Neal is correct that the situation in Phoenix is a match made in heaven for point guard Chris Paul – who now can run the show with two unbelievably talented scorers alongside him in Devin Booker and Durant.

The Suns already had an outstanding roster, but adding a player of the magnitude of KD takes them into a whole different stratosphere.

Throw in Deandre Ayton in the mix, and the Suns likely have the most talented starting line-up in the association.

As we’ve seen already, the fit with Durant is seamless also, as his particular skill set doesn’t change the fundamentals of the Suns’ offense.

All signs point to success

KD is an outstanding shooter and natural scorer who doesn’t necessarily demand high usage to put points on the board. Given Durant has also been productive alongside other score-first guards like Kyrie Irving and Stephen Curry, coexisting with Booker will be no problem at all.

Of course, they still have to continue to build chemistry and hit their stride come playoff time, but Shaq and the rest of the NBA world feel that the marriage between Durant and the Suns will be a successful one.
