Portugal star saw his first booking in Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr, Cristiano Ronaldo’s team, booked their place in the semi-finals of the Champions Cup with a 3-1 win over Abha in a match in which the Portuguese striker did not score and was substituted in the 87th minute.
Al Nassr, who are second in the league, one point behind the leaders, took the lead in the first minute through Sami Al Naji and extended their lead in the 21st minute thanks to a goal by Abdullah Al Khaibari.
In the second half, Mohammed Maran scored his side’s third in the 49th minute and Abdulfattah Adam scored a consolation goal for the visitors in the 69th minute.
Their opponents in the penultimate round of the tournament will be Al Wehda, who beat Al Batin 2-1. On the other side of the draw, Al Ittihad, who are top of the league, beat Al Feiha and will meet the winner of the match between Al Hilal and Al Fateh.
First yellow card for Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia
In the final seconds of the first half, the referee cut off a clear counter-attack for Ronaldo’s team when he blew the half-time whistle. Ronaldo himself was driving forward with the ball at the time and he did not react well.
Angrily, the Portuguese player picked up the ball and kicked it into the sky, which earned him his first yellow card since arriving in Saudi Arabia. Continuing to complain after being shown the yellow card, perhaps Ronaldo is lucky the ref didn’t take out the red.
