When the Phoenix Suns traded for Kevin Durant, they immediately became the betting favorites to win the Western Conference. But, after just three games with the Suns, Durant had to take a break after suffering a freak ankle injury.
Fortunately, Durant is expected to make his return tonight — right in time for the end of the season — but there are some questions about the chemistry with his new teammates considering their minuscule run time together. Speaking with the media, Booker recently addressed those concerns and explained why he believes the Suns are right on track with the best in the West.
“We just hoop,” Booker said. “We make reads We make plays, and we start with a structure and our sets. He fits right into that and he knows what we’re doing. We kick it at the crib, but we’d done that before. Kev was somebody that I’d pull up on even when we weren’t teammates.”
There were similar sentiments made about the Durant and Irving duo before that fell apart, so it’s no wonder why some fans are still not convinced the Suns are ready to win it all.
How Far Can Durant Take The Suns This Year?
Assuming Durant stays healthy, Phoenix is going to be a tough matchup for any Western Conference team. And while their status as contenders has yet to be proven, the sheer talent of the roster is enough for experts to predict a very successful season for Durant and his new team.
“I got [the Phoenix Suns] going to the Finals if KD is healthy,” said Stephen A. Smith. “If Kevin Durant is healthy, I believe he’s the best on the planet and I believe in Kevin Durant, one of the most efficient offensive superstars this game has ever seen. I know what I see in Devin Booker. And I believe if Kevin Durant gets healthy, the Phoenix Suns are going to the NBA Finals. That’s how much I believe in Kevin Durant.”
It’s worth noting that we’ve never seen a star of Durant’s caliber make a long playoff run with so few games played with his team.
But KD is so good, he’s the exception to all the rules, and if he can play as well as he always does, his impact will be undeniable in the Western Conference playoffs.
