Chris Hemsworth shares never-before-seen behind-the-scenes footage of Thor’s transformative workout routine from Thor: Love and Thunder.
Marvel Cinematic Universe star Chris Hemsworth shared behind-the-scenes footage of Thor’s transformative workout from Thor: Love and Thunder.
“Some rare never before seen footage of my transformation workout for Thor,” Hemsworth wrote on Twitter. “It’s a unique blend of several martial art disciplines and moves inspired by all the great ’80s action heroes.” The video shows Hemsworth’s Thor working off the weight gained in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame set to Loverboy’s song “Working For the Weekend.”
Thor had his own transformative journey in Love and Thunder, but Hemsworth himself revealed that his own training regimen for the fourth Thor movie got him to “the fittest and strongest I’ve been before all the Thors.” In a November 2021 interview, Hemsworth explained how he developed new techniques in order to get his body into superhero shape, making him bigger and stronger than in previous performances as the God of Thunder.
“For years I probably overtrained,” Hemsworth said at the time. “People who do muscle-building often don’t realize it’s a sport that shouldn’t be seven days a week, two hours a day. I was doing that in the previous Thors, and was coming up sorer, with less energy.” He continued, “The training across 10 years of doing it is a full-time job. That and then a 12-hour shooting day – it’s a real grind. It’s incredibly rewarding, too – you have to look at it like a professional athlete.”
Hemsworth’s Fourth Thor Movie
Love and Thunder marked Chris Hemsworth’s fourth solo film in the MCU as the titular God of Thunder, after making his debut as the hero with Thor in 2011, directed by Kenneth Branagh. Overall, Hemsworth has reprised his role as Thor Odinson eight times across the Infinity Saga. His other solo movies include 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, directed by Alan Taylor, and 2017’s Thor: Ragnorok, directed by Taika Waititi.

In June, Hemsworth revealed that he was unsure whether his appearance in Love and Thunder would be his last time playing Thor in the MCU. “Every time I play Thor I’m like, ‘This is the last time they’ll let me do it.’ So, I don’t know,” the actor said, and noted that he would “come back for more and more until someone kicks [him] off the stage.”
Love and Thunder picks up after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The film saw Thor, joined by the Guardians of the Galaxy, Jane Foster’s the Mighty Thor (Natalie Portman) and King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), go up against the villainous Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale), who seeks extinction of the gods.
