Can Alex Caruso grab a spot on the All-Defense team?
Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso is a team-first guy who tries to make plays that lead to wins. He’s done it at every stop of his career—whether it was Texas A&M or the Los Angeles Lakers, where he won an NBA title in 2020. While not one to care about stats or personal accolades, Caruso shared that he believes he is worthy of a spot on the NBA All-Defense team.
One of the league’s best
Caruso is one of the league’s best defenders, as evidenced by the votes that he recently received for the Defensive Player of the Year award. A pesky ballhawk who’s quick enough to stay in front of guards and strong enough to battle forwards, Caruso has established himself as one of the league’s premier defenders.
He ranks among the league leaders in total steals and steals per game, which was an important factor in sparking the Bulls’ late-season surge toward the Play-in tournament. Caruso was particularly spectacular in the Play-in game against the Toronto Raptors, where he piled up three steals and three blocked shots.
Deserving of the recognition
After that game, Caruso shared how proud he is of his development on the defensive side of the ball.
“I’m really proud of how much work I’ve put in and the growth I’ve had to get to this point,” he said. “There are a lot of good defenders in the league. It’s a tough list to make, especially being a guard and only four spots. But I think I am (worthy).”
