The song is from The National’s upcoming album First Two Pages of Frankenstein, slated for release on Friday from British record label 4AD.

Swift co-wrote the song with The National singer Matt Berninger and guitarist Aaron Dessner, who Swift has collaborated with in the past.

The song follows Berninger singing about meeting someone with a ‘golden notebook’ at The Alcott, who was, ‘writing about someone who used to be me.’
The chorus – sung by both Swift and Berninger – continues, ‘And the last thing you wanted/Is the first thing I do/I tell you my problems/ It’s the last thing you wanted.’
‘It’s the first thing I do/I tell you that I think I’m fallin’/Back in love with you,’ the chorus concludes.
The song appears to be a break-up song, with lyrics like, ‘Give me some tips to forget you though the chorus keeps repeating, ‘I think I’m fallin’ back in love with you.’
Swift sings the last line of the song – ‘Back in love with you’ – as the four-minute-27-second song comes to an end.
While it’s unclear if the song has any connection to Swift’s recent break-up with Joe Alwyn, it comes just under three weeks after their split.
Sources claimed the split was ‘amicable’ and ‘not dramatic,’ which happened while Swift is embarking on her The Eras Tour, which kicked off in March.
‘The relationship had just run its course. It’s why [Alwyn] hasn’t been spotted at any shows,’ a source told Page Six, adding they broke up a few weeks before it was first reported on April 8.

She’s coming off performances at AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Raymond James Stadium in Tampa and NRG Stadium in Houston.
This coming weekend she’ll perform at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, followed by Nissan Stadium in Nashville and Soldier Field in Chicago this May.
The tour will also roll through Ford Field (Detroit), Acrisure Stadium (Pittsburgh), Paycor Stadium (Cincinnati), Arrowhead Stadium (Kansas City), Empower Field (Denver), Lumen Field (Seattle) and wrapping up at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
