Elizabeth Olsen offers a candid response when asked if she misses playing Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Elizabeth Olsen comments on missing the Marvel Cinematic Universe and playing the Scarlet Witch. Despite being introduced back in Phase 2, Wanda Maximoff only got her headlining project in Phase 4 with WandaVision. After appearing in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, however, the character hasn’t been in the MCU since, leaving fans eager to know what’s next for her.
When asked about this extended hiatus from the MCU, Olsen surprisingly confessed that she doesn’t really miss playing Wanda in a new interview with Variety.
Granted that she loves the character, she enjoys the break, which allows her to do other projects. Read her full explanation below:
“No, I don’t miss it. I just did two years straight of it, so I think the break has been good for me. I need to built other characters. [Love & Death] came at a great time, it was after playing Wanda for two years straight.”
MCU Projects Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch Can Return In
For context, Scarlet Witch sacrificed herself at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The film heavily suggests that she died, but it’s doubtful that it’s the end for the character. Sooner or later, she will re-emerge in the MCU and be a prominent player in the fight against Kang towards the end of the Multiverse Saga.
Given that, there are a few projects that Olsen can return to as the Scarlet Witch. Firstly, there’s Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The Disney+ series is currently filming in Atlanta. Considering Wanda’s ties to Agatha Harkness, not to mention the premise of the show, it makes sense for the Scarlet Witch to be involved. She could also be involved in the reported Paul Bettany-led project, Vision’s Quest, which will focus on the synthezoid after the events of WandaVision.
Finally, it’s safe to say that Wanda will be in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and/or Avengers: Secret Wars. As a Nexus being in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it only makes sense that Scarlet Witch will be involved in these narratives. Perhaps, she may even be at the forefront of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ next big fight. Before that, however, Marvel Studios could bring her back in an earlier project to kick off her redemption arc.
